The county was founded in 1749.

Each registered sex offender in the state of Virginia should be included on an up-to-date police list, including those in Cumberland County. Cumberland County Public Records

In Virginia state, reports called vital records are kept on every resident within the jurisdiction. All important life events are recorded in these reports. Marriages, divorces, births, and deaths are all reported in these vital files. These document files are sometimes collected by the individual counties, such as Cumberland County. Cumberland County comes with a charge per copy. Cumberland County for instance, birth certificates, death records, marriage certificates and divorce records cost $12 for each certificate.

NOTE - Anyone looking to get hold of records in person should be aware that the office opens between 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 P.M EST on Monday - Friday. To get hold of records in Cumberland County, photo identification is needed. State IDs and driver's licenses will do just fine. Only applications put in writing will be accepted in Cumberland County.
